schedule updates

  • October 2024: Engineering design of both bridges is complete, and the projects are ready to be advertised for construction bids.

  • What we are waiting for:  Both bridges are considered historic by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP); therefore, before the bridges can be removed, they must go through the Section 106 process, which aims to mitigate removal of historic property. This process is undertaken by the Army Corps of Engineers, Montana State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), and ACHP. The Section 106 process was initiated in October 2023. The Army Corps and SHPO are currently reviewing the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for both of the Old Town structures; however, the agencies are requiring an amendment to the Meridian Bridge MOA to remove the Old Town Structures from conditions set forth in that document. This amendment process is anticipated to take two months. Once the amendment is completed the MOA’s for the Old Town structures will be signed and bidding for construction can occur.

  • Update (March 2025): The amendment to the Meridian Bridge MOA has been completed and signed by all stakeholders. SHPO has completed their review of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for both of the Old Town structures and provided comments to Stahly Engineering and the Army Corps of Engineers on February 21, 2025. The comments were addressed, and the documents were returned to SHPO on February 25, 2025.  We are awaiting the final MOA documents from SHPO for review and approval by the County and agencies.

  • Update (March 6, 2025): We have received the final MOA documents for both Old Town bridges and they are out for signature by the County and agencies.  They will be on the County Commission agenda for the March 18th meeting.  The next step will be to finalize the bid documents and put the project out to bid.  Once bid dates have been set, they will be posted here.

  • Update (March 27, 2025):  The Gallatin County Commissioners have approved and signed the final MOA documents for both Old Town bridges and we have received the signed documents from Montana SHPO and Army Corps of Engineers.  The schedule for bidding the project is as follows:

    • Advertise the project in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on April 5, April 12, and April 19

    • Bids due and opened April 29

    • Recommendation of award and Notice of Award to the Gallatin County Commission for approval at the May 6 regular commission meeting.

    • Construction updates will be posted here throughout the project.
